Liam's Light
"The power of a single candle can ignite a thousand dreams." ... author unknown
Liam Conejo Ramos, a 5-year old little boy still in kindergarten, was taken by ICE along with his father and flown from Minneapolis to a detention facility in southwest Texas. Liam’s physical health was so impacted by the trauma that it required a judicial ruling to stop deportation proceedings and return the father and son to their home in Minnesota. It should be noted that the family were already lawfully seeking legal asylum when they were detained and scheduled for deportation.
Judge Fred Biery, United States District Judge ruled in a scathing rebuke of the current DHS Detention practices that Liam and his father would be returned to Minneapolis. Judge Biery went on to say, “with a judicial finger in the constitutional dyke, it is so ORDERED.” In a highly unusual addition, the judge also cited Bible verse and included a photo of Liam in the judicial document:
Matthew 19:14 "Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'"
John 11:35 "Jesus wept"
